Choosing your interior design style

Choosing your interior design style can feel overwhelming. Do you have lots of ideas but don’t know where to start? Do you find yourself being drawn to multiple different styles and trends? Getting to know your design style doesn’t need to be a tedious process, but it is worth taking the time to find what you really like before you start your planning. This will not only save you time, but will also save you money in the long run.

Tips to get you started:

  • Draw inspiration from your favourite clothing. What colours, fabrics and patterns do you like?

  • Identify all the items in your home that catch your eye. This could be a piece of artwork, furniture or certain decor items. Bring them all together as this will help determine how you want your home to look and feel.

  • Gather your design inspiration. Instagram and Pinterest are a great place to start, but don’t forget to look around you as well. Have you visited a restaurant or hotel recently where the design really spoke to you?

  • Get creative. Once you have identified some key pieces and collected your inspiration, bring it all together on a mood board to help you visualise the overall design style.

There is no right and wrong when choosing your design style and it's not about selecting one style and then limiting yourself to that look or trend. It’s about discovering what you like so you can be confident with your choices and knowing that how you decorate your home will reflect your personality and the way you live.
