<image:title>Blog - Six tips for a successful home office design - Your office should be a place where you enjoy spending time and a successful design will help to boost productivity and motivation. Here are six tips for a successful home office design and balancing style and functionality:</image:title>
<image:caption>Select the right colour palette: blue and green tones are a great option to portray a sense of calm and focus. Take advantage of natural light: this has been shown to improve mood and productivity. The use of sheer curtains can help to prevent any glare to your computer screen but will still allow the light to filter in. Choose the right desk and it’s position: determine the size of your space and ensure the desk you select has enough space to accomodate all your equipment. If the space allows, avoid putting the desk facing the wall as this can be uninspiring. The best placement has the desk away from the wall and facing the doorway. Opt for a comfortable and supportive chair: arguably the most important item when choosing your office furniture. Luckily for us, there are now quite a few options that are ergonomic and can look good. Keep your space clutter free: ensure you have adequate storage and use accessories on your desk to keep everything organised and tidy. Add the finishing touches: artwork, lighting and plants will all help to create a more ‘homely’ feel and make the space personal to you.</image:caption>

Not only will you learn along the way but you’ll also have the expertise and guidance to ensure everything runs smoothly. It's only for small spaces We can help you design spaces of any size, from entryways to master bedrooms, from small apartments to larger homes. Our space planning service will help to determine that your space is being used in the most efficient way, furniture placement is correct and there is a cohesive and functional layout. <image:title>Blog - Creating a cohesive look - mix and match decor styles - Mixing and matching decor styles can be tricky but when done right, it can be a great way to add personality to your home and reflect your unique style. Here are some tips to help you achieve a balanced and harmonious space.</image:title>
<image:caption>Choose a colour scheme Choose two or three colours that work well together. Use the 60-30-10 rule: 60% of a dominant colour, 30% of a secondary colour, and 10% of an accent colour. You can incorporate these colours through your wall treatments, furniture and accessories. Use different patterns To create visual interest, try mixing different types of patterns such as stripes, florals, and geometrics. Just make sure to balance the different patterns within the space and use similar colours to create a cohesive look. Incorporate texture To add interest and depth to your home, use different textures such as wood, metal and fabric. When mixing textures, make sure to choose materials that complement each other. Create balance If you have a bold statement piece, balance it out with more neutral pieces. If you have a lot of patterns in one area, balance it out with solid-coloured accessories. This will help to avoid a disjointed look and prevent the space from feeling too busy. Use repetition Repeat similar elements throughout. As an example. this can be achieved by selecting a statement piece of artwork or furniture and repeating either the patterns, colours and textures from that piece throughout your design. Add personal touches Finally, don't forget to add personal touches to your space by incorporating items that have sentimental value or reflect your personality. This will make your home feel more cohesive and unique. Did you find this helpful? Sign up to our newsletter to receive all the design tips straight to your inbox.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Must-haves when designing an entryway - Looking for inspiration to transform your home entryway? These key elements will help create a functional and inviting space.</image:title>
<image:caption>A STATEMENT PIECE Create a great first impression as soon as you open the front door Pendant lighting - A statement light fixture is a great way to add visual interest and will act as the main focal point. Artwork - Similar to statement lighting, choosing an eye-catching piece of artwork will create a strong visual impact. Mirror - As well as acting as a main feature, a mirror will help to reflect light and make the space feel larger. STORAGE Create a great first impression as soon as you open the front door Buffet - If space allows, opt for a buffet table that has cupboards or drawers which will provide you with amble storage. Console table - If space is limited, choose a more slimline console table and add baskets underneath for extra storage. Bench seat - A bench seat is a great alternative option that provides a place to sit as well as built-in storage options. DECOR Add finishing touches to ensure its inviting and sets the tone for the rest of your home. Rug - Introducing a rug into the space will bring warmth, colour and texture. As an entryway is a heavy traffic area, be sure to choose a durable material such as jute or sisal. Lamp - Adding a lamp is not only a practical option if the entryway lacks natural light, but it also creates a welcoming and inviting ambiance. Greenery - Plants offer a sense of calm and are a great way to create a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere as soon as you enter the home. Did you find this helpful? <image:title>Blog - 5 ways to maximise the space in your home - Does your home feel cramped and overwhelming? With these simple changes, you can make your home feel more spacious.</image:title>
<image:caption>ONE - choose the right colours Colour can have a significant impact on how a space feels. Lighter colours will help to make a room feel more open and airy. To create a seamless look, use the same colour on the walls, ceilings and trims. TWO - use mirrors Mirrors create the illusion of depth and reflect light, making a space appear larger. By placing a large mirror on the wall, your room will feel more spacious and inviting. THREE - utilise vertical space Create the illusion of height and a larger room by drawing the eye upwards. This can be achieved by hanging curtains high above the window, choosing furniture with a tall profile such as a bookshelf and a cabinet and incorporating a statement light fixture. FOUR - choose multi-functional furniture Choose furniture that can serve more than one purpose. A sofa bed can be used as a couch during the day and then converted into a bed at night. Similarly, a coffee table with hidden storage can provide additional space for storing books or other items. FIVE - embrace minimalism Declutter your home and only keep items that you really need or love. Create an organised environment to make your home feel less cramped and more spacious. <image:title>Blog - Light up your home - The effects of different lighting - Lighting is an integral part of design and understanding the different options and their benefits is key to creating a space that reflects your style and enhances functionality.</image:title>
<image:caption>Natural Light Maximise natural light by strategically placing mirrors to bounce the light around the room, opting for light coloured paint and flooring to reflect the light and arranging furniture to allow light to flow freely throughout the space. Ambient Lighting Create the perfect space for relaxation and entertainment with ambient lighting. Install dimmers to adjust intensity and place floor and table lamps in living spaces for a soft glow. Task Lighting Help optimise productivity with well-designed task lighting. Think under-cabinet lights in the kitchen, adjustable desk lamps in your home office and reading lamps beside your favourite armchair. Accent Lighting Highlight architectural features, artwork or decor pieces with accent lighting. Use spotlights or track lighting to draw attention to specific areas and wall sconces or picture lights to illuminate artwork. Decorative Lighting Make a statement with decorative lighting fixtures. Hang a stunning chandelier in your dining room to create a focal point and install eye-catching pendant lights above your kitchen island. <image:title>Blog - Must-haves when designing a living room - Find out what some of the 'must-haves' are when creating a well-designed living room.</image:title>
<image:caption>Statement Furniture Begin by choosing a focal point like a stunning sofa or an eye-catching coffee table which will anchor your space. Mix textures and materials to add visual interest. Remember, comfort is always key when it comes to seating, so don't be afraid to splurge on these key pieces that will make a lasting impression. Ambient Lighting Consider installing dimmer switches to the main overhead lighting to adjust the brightness and set the mood. Enhance the atmosphere further with accent lighting like floor and table lamps or wall sconces. Layering different lighting sources allows you to create an inviting but functional space. Textures and Layers Start by selecting an area rug that complements your colour scheme and defines the seating area. Introduce cushions and throws and mix and match the fabrics, patterns and textures to bring depth and warmth to the space. Consider incorporating textured wallpaper or wall panels for an additional visual element. A Clear Design Plan The most important part! Creating a clear plan is essential. Assess your space and identify your needs and preferences. Research and gather your inspiration to help visualise your desired outcome and ensure you consider the layout, functionality and flow of the room.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Must-haves when designing a bathroom - Choosing the design for your bathroom renovation can be overwhelming, so let’s breakdown some of the ‘must-haves’.</image:title>
<image:caption>Layout Plan the layout carefully to make the best use of available space. If budget allows, this may mean changing up the location of plumbing lines and fixtures. Lighting Good lighting is essential. Look to use a combination of downlights, task lighting (for specific areas such as the vanity) and ambient lighting (for an inviting and relaxing space). Storage Adequate storage is essential to keep the space organised. Consider vanities with drawers, cabinets, shelves and built-in niches. Towel bars and hooks are also essential. Vanity This tends to be the hero piece. Consider the design but also the functionality. If the space is small, you may want to look at a wall-hung option or if you have a larger space, a double freestanding vanity might be the way to go. Bath and shower There are a number of different bath and shower configurations and this will be determined on the space and a carefully thought out floor plan. You may decide there is only enough room for a shower, but if you do opt for a bath, choose an option that doesn’t overpower the space. Tapware Determining the style (e.g. contemporary or traditional) will help when selecting your tapware. Consider the different finishes (brass, brushed nickel, chrome etc.). Don’t forget, there are also different mixers available (wall, basin, vessel etc.) and you need to ensure the sink tapware option you choose works with the basin you select as well. Tiles This can often be one of the hardest decisions as it often influences the whole design and style of the room. There are a number of different options (ceramic, porcelain, natural stone etc.) and it’s important to know the pros and cons of each. <image:title>Blog - Common design challenges - You’re not alone! I see a lot of the same design challenges when talking with clients. Although at first it can feel overwhelming, there are usually a few simple ways to resolve them. Take a look at some of the common challenges that occur and what the solutions are.</image:title>
<image:caption>Limited space To maximise space, use multi-functional furniture and incorporate storage. Light colours and mirror can make a room feel more spacious. Consider shelving rather than cabinetry to keep the space visually open. Awkward room layout Create a focal point to draw attention away from awkward corners. Make use of area rugs to define different zones within the room. Insufficient lighting Incorporate a mix of ambient, task and accent lighting. Use floor and table lamps, pendant lights and wall sconces to balance the lighting in the room. Consider the use of sheer curtains to allow natural light to filter in but keeping a sense of privacy. Choosing a colour scheme If you’re hesitant about choosing colours for the space, start with a neutral base and add accents of colour through accessories and textiles to make it easier to change over time. Balancing style and function Selecting furniture and decor items that serve a purpose while aligning with the design aesthetic. Don’t rush into decisions, take your time and choose quality pieces that are going to work with your design and are also functional. <image:title>Blog - 5 tips for planning your next design project - Here are five tips you want to consider before starting your next design project.</image:title>
<image:caption>1. Discover Your Personal Style: Create a mood board with images, colours and textures that resonate with you. This will serve as a visual guide for your design choices. Consider whether you prefer a modern, minimalist, traditional or eclectic style for example and use this as a foundation for your design decisions. 2. Determine the Functionality of the Space: Consider the activities that will take place in each area and how you want the space to function. Understanding the intended use of each space will guide your design choices. 3. Set a Realistic Budget: Consider all aspects of the project including furniture, decor, lighting and any professional services you may require. Be realistic and allocate your budget according to your priorities. This will help you make informed decisions and avoid overspending. 4. Plan One Room at a Time: Instead of feeling overwhelmed by the entire project, break it down by planning one room at a time. This allows you to focus on the details of each space and ensures a cohesive design throughout your home. Begin with the rooms that are most important to you or those that will have the greatest impact on your daily life. 5. Hire an Interior Designer: If you find the process challenging or want professional expertise, consider hiring an interior designer. A designer can help to navigate potential challenges and translate your vision into a cohesive and well-executed design plan. Collaborating with a designer can streamline the process and elevate the overall outcome of your project. If you found this helpful and would like to find out any more information about how E. Jane Interiors can help with your project, please get in touch.</image:caption>
